The List

Here is a list we were given at the Treatment Center of the top ingredients to avoid in personal care products (hair/body/skin):

*Butylene Glycol

*DEA (Diethanolamine)/MEA (Monoethanolamine)/TEA (Triethanolamine)

*Fragrance

*Parabens (butyl/methyl/ethyl/propyl/isobutyl)

*Phthalates (Dibutyl DBT), di(2-thylhexyl) (DEHP),di-ethyl phthalate (DEP), butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)

*Polyethylene Glycol (PEG)

*PPD (P-Phenylenediamine)

*Propylene Glycol (Propan-1, 2-diol, PG, Propylenglycolum)

*Sodium Lauryl/Laureth Sulphate-SLS/SLES

*Toluene (Toloul, Methylbenzene)

*Triclosan (5-Chloro-2(2,4-dichlorophenoxy)-phenol)

*Xylene (Xylol or Dimethylbenzene)

A little overwhelming and a little frustrating... but I'm going to try. My biggest concern is that I've been using the same skincare for about 10 years now and LOVE IT. I am afraid to start experimenting again... and dealing with breakouts after getting it under control for so long.

Here’s a database to use to check your current products and their hazard levels- http://www.cosmeticdatabase.org

Wow! The question is...Is there anything on the market that doesn't contain these agents? I bet it will take some time to find any, but I say "go for it!!" I really admire your tenacity in regards to your health.

Hi April! I know!!! Not much in the "standard" market, for sure. We like sheep...
I am doing tons of research online trying to find substitute products. Most are pretty pricey- that's definitely the downside!! But I guess I need to look at it as an investment in my health- I can pay now, or pay later, right??
I will be posting good finds as I come across them...

I bet it took forever to write that post typing all of those horrible words out. !!!

Glad you're home!

I don't know if I can give up my sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate. It makes my hair look nice :)....I'll be excited to hear about the options you find that work. I don't have the patience to do the research. Thanks for doing it for us.

I've started researching hair care so far. I love the cosmetic database. :)

I'll have to check this list against what I have here in the house still. :)

Right now, I'm using California Baby shampoo. I need to check my conditioners on the database.

OH my gosh! All of my products are horrible they contain so many of the phenols and butyls! OI! I used to be so diligent about this and somehow after Lily arrived all my attention turned to her care! I love Arbonne products and that is what I use for Lily and used to use for myself but the price is a great deal more....I think you are right though, better to pay now, rather than later. Arbonne is one of those products that you can't buy in the store which for me makes it a little more difficult but hey it is quality of life care we are talking about! Thanks for the motivation....I'm going to get back on track!
